Ange Postekoglou discusses the chances of Kyogo starting Rangers as he says there is still a lot to be done from Celtic

ANJ POSTECOGLU insists Celtic’s best is yet to come after seeing them score a Magnificent Seven against St Johnstone.

In an ominous warning ahead of next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers, the Hoops boss said his players weren’t at their peak yet.

With a nine-point lead at the top of the table, the Celts are now 23 goals better after the Parkhead rout.

But as fans eye Treble, Postecoglu wants more.

He said: “That has been our mantra all year to be better than the week before. This is what we were heading towards.

“We have many assistants, which means that the level of our training is at the highest level.

“We have a few good weeks to practice because there are no games in the middle of the week, so these things are in our favor in terms of creating our best football.

“But it’s not that they just show up there and it just happens. Today they worked off their socks.

“When we didn’t have the ball, we were determined to get it back.

“When we do that, we have the quality in the team to hit teams like we did today.”

The Celts took the lead with three goals at half-time thanks to Reo Hatata, Giorgos Jakumakis and Daizen Maeda.

Josip Djuranovich added a fourth from the penalty mark before Matt O’Reilly hit the Saints twice in six.

Liel Abada made a magnificent seven, running to the pass from the returning hero Kyogo Furuhashi.

Even though Postecoglou is very happy about the return of the Japanese striker, he is unlikely to throw him at Gers from the very beginning.

Boss Hoops added: “I’m happy for him because he’s a great guy. And a super football player.

“He was so important at the beginning of the year when we really needed someone to step up.

“The whole group watched him work hard on his own in rehab, so it was great to have him back there.

“Whenever someone is away for a significant amount of time, you have to be a little more careful.

“I don’t think we’ll drop him next week. I doubt he will start next week.

“But if we can give him some more playing time in the next couple of weeks, you think he’ll be ready for the last three or four games.”

Postecoglu applauded the manner in which his team won decisively.

He said, “We needed to start well, and like many games, we came out early on in first place, but it was good to see us keep going.”
