VIEWERS tuned into tonight’s episode of Holly Willoughby’s new show, Freeze the Fear, all reacted the same way to the shower scenes.
In an episode of the adventure series that aired earlier, contestants were instructed to endure a 15-minute cold shower as part of the challenge.
Wim Hof, the famed Ice Man known for his ability to withstand freezing temperatures, challenged the celebrities as hosts Holly Willoughby and Lee Mack watched.
Tenor Alfie Bo and sports presenter Gabby Logan were the first to dare to take an icy shower.
Alfie was shirtless in a bathing suit, while Gabby was wearing a bathing suit for a cold feat.
Holly and Lee, wrapped in warm alpine gear, grimaced as they watched Alfie and Gabby scream as the icy water hit their bodies.
But while the show showed their reactions in slow motion to heighten the drama, many viewers who weren’t at home were far from impressed.
“Cold shower. Seriously. Hardly a SAS?” wrote one non-plus viewer.
“I had to completely take cold showers, wash and rinse my hair, etc. on a camping trip. 15 seconds are gone now, ”supported another.
A third groaned, “I can’t believe the BBC has a show about celebrities taking cold showers and then congratulating them on their achievement.”
A fourth chimed in: “These people are making a hell of a fuss about taking a cold micro-shower. Didn’t they ever have a broken boiler or did they do PE in a British school in the 80s?!”
And a fifth bluntly stated: “Being British is like watching a lot of overpaid celebrities take cold showers on prime time TV.”
In addition to Gabby and Alfie, the reality show features former EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite, musician Professor Green, and Strictly Come Dancing’s Dianne Buswell.
They were also joined by broadcaster and footballer Chelsea Grimes, Welsh meteorologist Owain Wyn Evans and former Premier League footballer Patrice Evra.
Last week, some viewers criticized the show during the first episode and vowed to shut down.
One viewer even called for the series to be canceled before the episode ended.
Along with an angry face emoji, one person chimed in, “I was really looking forward to Freeze Fear, but its dramaturgy makes me cringe so much. Truly terrible.”
Echoing their comments, someone else fumed: “Why the hell was Fear Freeze commissioned by the BBC? It’s complete nonsense.”
Others have criticized the show due to the soaring cost of living.
“Look how great it is to be cold,” one wrote sarcastically, adding, “Is this a government-sponsored information show to get us to turn off that central heating?”
Agreeing, another viewer asked, “What is the point of this show? To help people deal with the energy crisis?”
