Hip-hop Theatre:

Working with live musicians, and incorporating elements of street performance, beatboxing, folklore, spoken word, and physical theatre, Tim transforms the complex themes and images of traditional storytelling into a vibrant, engaging form of modern theatre. Using innovative techniques, he brings an array of voices, characters, and places to life from around the world and across the street. Available as a solo artist, and with the members of Everyday Theatre.

Tim appears with the Vowel Movement All-Stars, as a solo flutist and beatboxer, & with a host of Bay Area hip-hop musicians, emcees, and DJs. Whether he’s doing a solo set or appearing as part of a larger unit, the effect of the battle flutist is not to be underestimated. Suitable for theatre venues, festivals, simchas, bat/bar mitavahs, weddings, clubs, and concerts.

Everyday Theatre has a long term relationship with many Bay Area b-boy and b-girl (breakdance) and house crews including Flo-ology, & Sisterz of The Underground. Beatboxers & dancers work together to create an evening of dance and music that is explosive.

Traditional Storytelling and Klezmer Music:

Tim works primarily within a Jewish narrative form called the wonder tale. These complex, highly patterned stories represent the virtuosic repertoire of Ashkenazi folklore. Rich in imagery and combining music, theatre, and audience participation, the form flourished during the 16th-19th centuries, and survives to this day. Tim knows a wide variety of tales from both the Ashkenazi and Sephardic tradtions. He has also studied with a variety of storytellers from different ethnic traditions, and his repertoire includes tales from the Irish, African-American, and Arabic traditions. Many of these stories have been passed down solely through the oral tradition, and are not available in print. Tim is available for storytelling concerts as a solo performer, and with the members of the Everyday Theatre.

Tim is available as a solo artist, or with up to 6 musicians for secular or religious audiences (fully conversant & comfortable with reform, conservative, and orthodox settings). Suitable for simchas, yom tovs, bar/bat mitzvahs, cultural events, festivals, and concerts. References available. Contact Everyday Theatre for more info.

Workshops and lecture/demos for the University level & beyond:

Tim has been a guest speaker at institutions including Stanford University, Brown University, Oberlin College, The American Press Institute, and The Royal College of Art, London. With a baccalaureate in medieval Islamic and Judaic religious studies, and substantial experience as a performer, he brings a compelling set of skillsets to bear on his work in university-level education. Tim is also available for as a speaker for professional conferences, staff training, and consultancies. For more information, please contact Tim.

“In 90 minutes, your enthusiasm, creativity, and high expectations had my students stepping out into new territories of musical expression- “jamming” in small combos! I know that I, as a teacher, learned a lot from watching you- the progression of activities, your rapport with the kids, and your mix of skill instruction with silliness and storytelling.”
-Greg Pearson, Elementary School Teacher

Tim is currently a resident artist with Oakland's Precott Clowns, and teaches regularly for schools including Berkely High & The JCHSF of San Francisco.  An experienced teacher and youth advocate, he has worked with multicultural youth from the elementary to high school level, in workshops and residences stretching from 1 day to three months.  He teaches classes in theatre, juggling, beatboxing, and hip-hop. “Dear Tim & Everyday
WOW…! You have, in a couple of hours, showed me kindness, beauty and truth in otherwise dark places--you've moved me to tears and to laughter. How is it that you have touched me so deeply? I wanted to tell you that you have given me hope once again, which I had long ago lost. I believe you've showed me a bit of magic. I am truly grateful to you. Thank you! You are, all of you, a great gift!”
